Ever felt isolated or shunned for being different. Ever found yourself biting your tongue to avoid possible conflict that should be addressed like say a white colleague made slick notes about you constantly changing your hair. Ever felt like you weren't "black enough" or even uncultured because you enjoyed alternative music over trap, or preferred anime over reality shows like Bad Girls Club, or maybe you just don't "sound black enough". I mean no shade to those who enjoy reality TV and trap, or maybe deeper in the trenches than other black folk, but how can we decide someone's race from music choice or television choice... Exactly-you CAN'T. So you're probably wondering who this girl is and what is this blog?!?

Awkward Black Girl (ABG) was a name revealed to me one night when I was struggling to sleep. Awkward enough, there was a show in 2015 called Awkward Black Girl featuring the one and only Issa Rae. The show involves love triangles, hostile work environments, and of course awkward people. Definitely check it out!

This blog is dedicated to all my introverted, extroverted, ambiverts, thickums and small ones, sensitive and cold-hearted, loud and silent babes all over the world. I wrote this thinking about all of y'all. You are important, intelligent, beautiful, and you deserve all the love. I want to educate you all on topics that may be sensitive like sexuality, safe sex, abstinence, wellness, culture, fashion, cooking, and a lot of randomness. I also want it be interactive where we can have open discussions about different topics. There is no "one type" of black girl, we come in all shapes and sizes and thinking, get out of that societal box and comfort zone. And…let us be awkward together :)

Describe a time or experience that you felt awkward or that you realized that you were awkward.
