Ever felt isolated or shunned for being different. Ever found yourself biting your tongue to avoid possible conflict that should be addressed like say a white colleague made slick notes about you constantly changing your hair. Ever felt like you weren't "black enough" or even uncultured because you enjoyed alternative music over trap, or preferred anime over reality shows like Bad Girls Club, or maybe you just don't "sound black enough". I mean no shade to those who enjoy reality TV and trap, or maybe deeper in the trenches than other black folk, but how can we decide someone's race from music choice or television choice... Exactly-you CAN'T. So you're probably wondering who this girl is and what is this blog?!?

Awkward Black Girl (ABG) was a name revealed to me one night when I was struggling to sleep. Awkward enough, there was a show in 2015 called Awkward Black Girl featuring the one and only Issa Rae. The show involves love triangles, hostile work environments, and of course awkward people. Definitely check it out!

This blog is dedicated to all my introverted, extroverted, ambiverts, thickums and small ones, sensitive and cold-hearted, loud and silent babes all over the world. I wrote this thinking about all of y'all. You are important, intelligent, beautiful, and you deserve all the love. I want to educate you all on topics that may be sensitive like sexuality, safe sex, abstinence, wellness, culture, fashion, cooking, and a lot of randomness. I also want it be interactive where we can have open discussions about different topics. There is no "one type" of black girl, we come in all shapes and sizes and thinking, get out of that societal box and comfort zone. And…let us be awkward together :)

Finding financial freedom through self love and understanding. How to secure the bag!

Many of us are consumers, we want to be so comfortable financially that we don’t have to look at the price tag to buy something from the store so that we are able to buy what we like with no constraint. Many of us are tired of working paycheck to paycheck, we are tired of feeling the weight of bills, we are tired of over drafting and late payments and want to make smarter financial decisions to put us in wealth and out of debt. We must understand that having a lot of money does not cover your personal issues and attitudes, it only enhances who you were before the money. For example, if you were a giver before then you will probably just become a bigger giver but if you were depressed before you are most likely going to be even more depressed.

Finding financial freedom

African Proverb: He who runs after good fortune runs away from peace.

The key to financial freedom is self-love. Self-love sets the tone for every relationship, from friendships, coworkers, peers, and parents, to money. When you are strong in who you are, you will not allow any person or job to stress you out no matter how much money you are making. This aspect of the website explores financial awareness as a form of alignment with self-awareness. To be more self-aware, you must be financially aware of your spending habits, saving frequency. It is also understanding that whatever that you want may not always be what you need. You may want the latest fashion, designer watch and bags, and other materialistic things but do you really need it? And more importantly can you afford paying for it twice? The African proverb follows me everywhere that your inner peace is greater than any paycheck or contract.

Focus on Yourself

Make financial decisions that put you ahead in life, not set you back because if you plan well now then you will enjoy the fruits of your labor later. Focus on yourself because some of us are trying to compete with celebrities and rich people. Stop rushing yourself because of what you see others doing, only should be doing what is best for you. Instead of asking when start asking how. Also understanding that to attract wealth, your idea of money must also change. Greatness attracts greatness, wealth attracts wealth. When you work hard towards your purpose and focus on yourself, you will never lose anything. If you are ready to maturely utilize your income to fit your lifestyle then subscribe and stay tuned for more ways to work towards financial freedom.

Thriving is not just surviving, it is not constantly going through the motions and having no sense of direction in life, it is not being a passive driver in your life or constantly procrastinating your future, it is not even being rich or famous. The definition of thriving is to grow vigorously and flourish. I don’t know about y’all, but I did not come to this world to survive, I came here to thrive, I came here to conquer and to exceed expectations.

A lot of us want to thrive but the sad truth is we all want the hourglass figure but not the work. We want to live our best lives without having to try or work hard for it, so we try to cut corners and do the bare minimum. But bare minimum work means bare minimum results, you must invest and sow the seeds that you want to reap and get back. It is true that we want to work smarter not harder but when many of us are put through different tests and lessons that life gives us, we continuously fail or get distracted and wonder why we are not seeing the results. Another issue that is keeping us from thriving is comparison and trends, wanting to walk in another person’s shoes wanting the same results. The thing with trends is that they always die out, you are not a trend you are a trendsetter. Just because it worked for someone else does not mean that it will work for you, that’s why to thrive you must focus on yourself not on followers, not on fame or clout, not on money, not on family, not on others opinions or expectations but only on you.

So many of us want to flourish and succeed but cannot even focus on ourselves. You are the chosen one, you are the only you, you are the success story, you are a victim not a victor, you are the former not the latter, you are the conqueror not conquered-don’t be afraid to show yourself some love. How do you thrive? You do what is best for you unapologetically. How can you thrive if you are not doing what is best for you and trying to follow someone else? You must lead yourself into the right path and know that the answers are all within you, if you have questions use your intuition as a guide to possible external resources (YouTube, close friends, numerology, full astrology, angel numbers, chakra alignment, etc.). Focus on yourself by doing what is best for you and listening to yourself. You are the biggest resource that you have, so channel that energy within you through meditation, mindfulness, gratitude, and self-love. May you continue to thrive in every aspect of your life. Peace be to you and through you!
